Day 11: Black Hills National Forest, SD Harney/Black Elk Hike

Today we embarked on our first hike since leaning New Jersey.  The trail was a short drive from our campsite, but we got a late start.  We didn’t begin this seven-mile, four-hour hike until 11:30.  It was hot yet bearable.  The weather has been consistent… sunny, dry, mid to high eighties.   We are officially out of shape and once again, officially in training to get back in shape.

There were here some steep inclines followed by level ground as we made our way to the top.  The summit is always worthwhile regardless of how tired you are.
